How do you eat an elephant? Answer: one bite at a time.
This is the approach we have been taking to restoring the grounds to their proper glory through our regular Grounds Maintenance Workdays. Slowly but surely we are clearing, pruning and tidying to improve the appearance of the place and make things easier to maintain in the future.
Since our inaugural Workday on the 13th January we have met monthly with 2-4 people turning up each time. Thus far we have:
- cleared the road frontage ditch of lots of litter
- gathered up various items of rubbish and unwanted material and satisfyingly deposited this into a skip
- tidied various areas around the outbuildings
- made a huge bonfire of all the burnable material and tidied the bonfire area
- winched out shrubs behind the staff cottages in preparation for installation of new garden fencing
- cut back the laurel, rhododendron and holly on either side of the exit road
- removed overgrown trees on the car park boundary
- cleared growth on part of the allotment area boundary in preparation for installation of deer proof fencing
There is always lots to be done and many hands make light work! Please refer to the item Grounds Maintenance Workdays under Get Involved on the website for details of what to bring, etc. if this something you would like to help with.
We would love to see you, so come and make a difference.
