Greetings to friends of Pilgrims Hall

Despite the mixed weather over the summer months, I trust you had an opportunity to take time out for physical, mental and spiritual refreshment.

Certainly, the lifting of most of the Government’s Covid19 restrictions has been most welcome, making it easier for to people to get together and enjoy activities previously denied. It’s especially pleasing that many churches are now meeting in-person again so that Christians can worship and fellowship together.

Activities resumed

At Pilgrims Hall we’ve been able to resume many of our activities. Guest have been able to stay at the Hall for retreats, local churches have used the grounds for services and recreation, the bookshop has re-opened and the Rendezvous tea room restarted. More recently, during August, many people have enjoyed fellowshipping over cream teas on Sunday afternoons. Following the usual August break, the Rendezvous tea room will resume again on 14 September.

We will shortly be restarting our ministry programme which was badly disrupted by the pandemic and the lockdown. We will be running a Bible Study series on Biblical prophecies that teach about God’s ultimate plans for this world which are highly relevant in the unprecedented times in which we are now living. They will be led by Dave Paul, one of the Trustees, over six weeks starting on 15 September. It will help Christians grow their knowledge of eschatology (End Times) taking account of current events. We are also planning a residential teaching weekend for women in October, from Friday evening 22nd October to Sunday 24th. Please get in touch with us if you are interested in participating in either of these. Further events are being considered and will be announced later so please keep an eye on the website for details

Encouragements

Our financial year ended in July, and although our finances were adversely affected by the closure of the Hall during much of 2020/21, the Lord faithfully provided for our needs. Many thanks to those of you who supported us financially for which we are most grateful.

We have had further encouragement as I can take this opportunity to let you know that a local couple, Sean and Kayleigh Maguire, will be joining the Resident Team on a full-time basis in November in response to a call upon them from the Lord to serve at the Hall. Please pray for them as they give-up employment and a business, relocate and are inducted into community life.

Stepping down

As many of you will know, I have been a Trustee and, more recently, the Chair of Trustees, at Pilgrims Hall for nearly a decade. I will be stepping down this month. There are a number of reasons; principally so I can focus on family and other ministries in which I’m involved. A lot has happened during my tenure – too much to rehearse here. However, my prayer is that those who have come into contact with Pilgrims Hall over these years have been blessed and grown in their faith, Biblical understanding and knowledge of the times in which we are now living. Please pray for the Trustees as they seek a new Chairman. It would be fitting, I feel, to end this message with the benediction found at the close of epistle to the Hebrews:

"Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen."

Every blessing,

The Team at Pilgrims Hall
